Two Great Northern Diver went north offshore at Hunmanby Gap on 1st. A large Pipit at Carr Naze flew towards Rocket Pole field calling like a Richard’s Pipit. Seabirds and waders were particularly notable this month. Low water levels at Filey Dams and East Lea pulled in some good waders. On 1st a single Barnacle Goose went northwest over Carr Naze, with six Shelduck, f Mandarin, m Shoveler, 4 Gadwall, 4 Tufted Duck, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Bullfinch and a Barn Owl were at East Lea, and a Water Rail in reeds by the meadow. A Red Kite flew south over the golf course from Muston
A quiet May overall. On 1st a small fall of Whitethroats occurred. Other birds present on 1st and 2nd included Red-breasted Merganser, Greenshank, Bar-tailed Godwit, Grasshopper Warbler, Cuckoo, Short-eared Owl and Ring Ouzel. April started with a Snow Bunting south and a Manxie north at Hunmanby Gap. Puffins also appeared off North Cliff in numbers with 75 counted. A Red Kite was seen on 3rd.
